Our Story

I grew up playing soccer and picked up my first set of weights at 10. From there, training became less of a hobby and more of an obsession — not just how to get stronger, but why structured training changes the way athletes think, compete, and carry themselves.

Over the next decade I played and coached at increasingly competitive levels, eventually helping lead Deacon Blue FC to a title. That experience taught me what separates athletes who plateau from those who keep improving: it’s not talent — it’s how they train in the off-season.

I started Grit Athletic Training in Santa Rosa to bring that same structure to youth athletes and adults in Sonoma County. Whether you’re chasing a starting spot, preparing for a season, or just want to move and feel better — I’ll meet you where you are and build a program around your actual goals.

Ten years of coaching. Sport-specific programming. Real results.

Our Philosophy

Every athlete — at every level — has more than they realize. My job is to help them find it.

I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all training. I believe in starting where you are, being honest about what needs work, and building from there. Whether you’re chasing a starting spot, training for a personal best, or just want to move and feel better — the principles are the same: train consistently, recover well and trust the process.

Speed, strength, and confidence aren’t reserved for elite athletes. They’re built. And I’ll show you how.

Trainer Bio

I’m Oliver Mooyman — NASM Certified Personal Trainer, ACE Youth Fitness Specialist, and the founder of Grit Athletic Training in Santa Rosa, CA.

My background is soccer and strength and endurance training. I’ve played at a mid-to-high level recreationally for over a decade — 800+ matches across Oregon and California, captained Deacon Blue FC to a league title — and spent years coaching everything from youth development to club teams, including a stint as Soccer Coordinator at i9 Sports. That’s where my training philosophy comes from: athletes need programs built around how their sport actually moves, not generic gym routines.

Today I train youth and adult athletes in small groups one-on-one with specific programming for team sports, speed training, strength athletes and endurance athletes. Every program is honest, and built around your goals.

No two athletes train the same. I’ll meet you where you’re at and build the program around what you actually need.
